Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the ingredients that I use in my recipes are unfamiliar to people.  Below, you will find information about what the ingredients are and where you can find them.

Coconut Flour:
Coconut flour is delicious!!  I use it in a lot of recipes.  You can find coconut flour at health food stores.  I get mine from Natures Garden in Friendswood.  You can also find it at Whole Foods or even order it off Amazon.  The brand we use is Bob's Red Mill Organic Coconut Flour.  Bob's Red Mill describes coconut flour as "a delicious, healthy alternative to wheat and other grain flours.  It is very high in fiber, low in digestible carbohydrates, a good source of protein and gluten free.  It lends baked goods an incomparably rich texture and a unique, natural sweetness."

Almond Flour:
Almond flour is commonly used in recipes to replace traditional flour.  We buy Bob's Red Mill Almond Flour/Meal.  Bob's Red Mill describes almond meal as "ground whole, blanched sweet almonds."  You can find almond flour at HEB or other grocery stores, Natures Garden in Friendswoods, or Whole Foods.

Ghee:
Ghee is a GREAT alternative to butter.  Ghee is lactose and casein free which makes it easier to digest if you struggle with dairy.  We use Purity Farms Organic Ghee (Clarified Butter.)  Purity Farms describes Ghee as "sweet cream certified organic butter that through a traditional Indian method, is cooked until the water and milk solids are removed.  Clarifying the butter.  The result is traditional Ghee- a rich, golden, semi-soft spread."  We buy our Ghee from Natures Garden in Friendswood.  You can also find it at Whole Foods.

Coconut Palm Sugar:
Coconut Palm Sugar is a perfect replacement for refined white sugar.  We use Sweet Tree Sustainable Sweeteners Blonde Coconut Palm Sugar.  Coconut Palm Sugar is a low glycemic index sweetener.  Sweet Tree says that Coconut Palm Sugar "is produced from the nectar of tropical coconut palm blossoms of SE Asia.  Once collected, it is kettle-boiled into a thick caramel and ground to a fine crystal."  We buy it at HEB.
